Larry Kellum

Larry Kellum graduated from Berlin High in 1947. While at Berlin he was a four-year athlete in baseball, football, and basketball and was the captain of the football team. After graduating Larry went to Central Connecticut State College where he played football as a freshman before being drafted into the Army and serving in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge he returned to his studies and received a BS in Education from CCSU in 1954 and in 1956 received his Masters from the University of Hartford in 1956 and a 6th year certificate from there, continuing his studies for his PHD at both the University of Hartford and CCSU.

Larry spent his career in education as a grade 5 teacher ion Wethersfield, principal and assistant superintendent in Pomfret, professor of education at CCSU, and principal at Gildersleeve School in Portland.  One of the highlights of Larry’s career  was the development of an educational program for children with learning disabilities which was published in the New England Journal of Reading. Larry enjoyed shooting, hunting, and fishing and in his retirement was a NRA instructor. Larry passed away December 2, 2002.
