Matt Carasiti graduated from Berlin High in 2009. He was a four-year letterman in baseball and was team captain his senior year. He was a two-time CHSCA/ Hartford Courant All-State selection and was instrumental in helping his team win a conference title and a Class L States runner-up. As a senior he earned Louisville Slugger All-American honors as well as corralling Gatorade Connecticut Player of the Year and Northeast Coca Cola Player of the Year accolades. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 38th round of the 2009 MLB draft but opted to attend Saint John’s University.
At Saint John’s Matt was a two-year starter before being drafted. As a freshman he had 19 appearances including 7 starts with a 5.94 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 53 innings and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. During his sophomore year he made 29 appearances including 1 start and went 2-2 with 8 saves and a 2.47 ERA,·with 39 strikeouts in 43.2 innings pitched holding opponents to a .219 batting average and allowing no earned runs in 20 of 28 relief appearances and was ranked 5th in Big East saves. Matt helped Saint John’s win its record 7lh Big East Conference Baseball Tournament. After his sophomore year he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 11th round, 198th overall.
After being drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2012 he spent 6 seasons in the minor leagues and one season in Japan. In 2016 while pitching for AA Hartford he recorded 29 saves with a 2.31 ERA. In 2016 he was called up by the Rockies on August 12 making his Major League debut, the same day pitching 2 innings in relief. On June 27, 2017, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Zac Rosscup. In November of 2017 he had his contract purchased but was released in December to pursue playing in Japan signing with the Tokyo Yakul Swallows of the Nippon Professional Baseball League for one year before returning to the Cubs organization. In June of 2019 following his release by the Cubs. Matt signed a Minor League contract with the Seattle Mariners and placed on the 45-man roster appearing in relief before being sent back to their AAA team. Matt continues to pursue his professional career.
