Andrew Thurston

Athlete

Andrew Thurston graduated from Berlin High in 2010. He participated in soccer, swimming, and tennis. He was also a three-year member of the marching band and Upbeat. He was the National Honor Society President, Class of 2010.

Andrew really excelled in swimming and diving where he held seven Berlin High swimming records. He was All-State, All-Conference, All-Herald, and the Redcoat Award recipient all four years in swimming and diving. Some high school records were in the 200IM (2.00.88), 500 Free (4.44.11) which still stands, and in the 200 Freestyle relay, and the 400 Freestyle relay.

Andrew played varsity tennis all four years and was a two-time captain of both the swim and diving team and the tennis team.

Andrew went on to the University of Massachusetts where he swam competitively for two years. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Returning to Berlin High, he was the girls’ varsity coach. He currently coaches recreation tennis to 5-14 years olds.

Besides Andrew’s many athletic accolades, he has always been a role model to his teammates, both in the pool, on the tennis court and in the classroom. He has been a leader and recruiter for all the sports he has participated in.
