Lori Mongillo, who graduated from Berlin High School in 1985, started playing Little League Farm baseball at the age of eight as a pitcher, catcher and first baseman. At the age of nine, she joined the Little League majors and at the age of 12, hit five home runs and was the only girl on the Little League All-Star Team. She went on to play Babe Ruth and was the only girl and made that all-star team. In middle school, Mongillo played softball, basketball and ran cross country. Her hope when she got to high school was to play baseball but the coach told her it was only for boys.

When she entered Berlin High, she became a four-year varsity member in three sports. As a volleyball player she was selected All-Northwest Conference in both her junior and senior years and was a team captain as a senior. As a basketball player Mongillo was selected All-Northwest Conference in her senior year and was a captain, averaging 15 points per game. That year the team qualified for the state tournament. As a four-year varsity softball player she was an All-Northwest Conference selection all four years and as a senior was a CHSCA/Hartford Courant All-State selection. During her senior year, the softball team went undefeated during the regular season with its only loss coming against Seymour in the state semifinals by one run.

After graduation, Mongillo received a softball scholarship to NCAA Division I Adelphi where she went on to have an outstanding career. The 1987 and ’88 team won the National Collegiate Softball Championship and in 1988, Mongillo participated in the College World Series and was a second-team all-regional selection. After graduating she played amateur softball.

Since 1992, Mongillo has owned and operated “Just Results” weight loss program/gym in Plainville.
