
Robert Manzo

Robert Manzo graduated from Berlin High in 1990. He was a four-year member of both the soccer and baseball teams between 1986 and 1990. In soccer he was a two-time captain and All Northwest Conference in both his junior and senior years. At the time of graduation, he was the leading scorer in school history. In baseball Rob was the starting catcher on the State Champion Baseball teams in 1989 and 1990. He was All-Northwest Conference in 1990 and participated in the Connecticut vs Massachusetts High School All-Star game.
After graduating Rob was the starting catcher at Quinnipiac from 1990-1994. He was selected as a member of the 1991 New Haven Diamond Club All-Star Team. During his senior year he was captain of the baseball team, All Northeast-10, and the Quinnipiac Male Athlete of the Year.
After graduating from Quinnipiac Rob became involved in coaching baseball. He had 10 years of coaching experience at the college level with 3 years at Quinnipiac and 7 years at Wesleyan. He was the head coach and general manager of the Berlin American Legion baseball team from 1998-2016. His teams were State Champions in 2002 and 2009. In their 2009 championship season they made an appearance in the American Legion World Series in Fargo, North Dakota. The team was a 6-time American Legion Zone 3 Champion. Rob was picked as the American Legion Coach of the Year 2 times, 2002 and 2009. In 2017 he received the Connecticut American Legion Distinguished Coaches Award. Throughout his career Rob has guided/mentored over 70 former players who have gone on to play college or professional baseball.
